Lynchburg, VA – The gentlemen owners of the White Hart cafe couldn’t have been kinder.  Food on the house (try the green flecked aioli), quality beer and coffee, and great tunes from opener Stephen.  Hosts H. and B. treated us to eggs, pomegranates, and potcakes (pancakes made in a pot, not what you are assuming!) made with orange juice – you should try this at home – and a place to lay our heads amidst circular saws, shofars, hunting bows, and the decorative contents of two complete weddings…not your average bachelorette pad!

SHOW RECAP – Woodstock, GA – May 11, 2012

Woodstock, GA – The M. family made us feel right at home, even kicking Grandma M. out of her basement lair for the night to house a certain married couple.  Another fabulous meal thanks to host C., lasagna with homemade kale pasta noodles, and a significant amount of technical assistance from host D., including the removal of the home’s interior doors, taking apart the baby grand piano, and exiling all the furniture from the largest room in the house.  Jonathan Peyton opened with a stirring folk set, backed by 4/13ths of the talented George family and upright bass.

SHOW RECAP – Durham, NC – May 10, 2012

Durham, NC – A 9 hour drive filled with riveting emotional discourse brought us to Durham, where hosts H. and C. served us a ridiculously delicious home cooked ratatouille and freshly baked bread in their sustainable, self-cooling eco-home before we took their living room apart, piled equipment on their piano, and confused their snow white German Shepherd (yep – it’s a recessive trait.)  See a really stunning set of images from the show on Flickr, thanks to Marc-Grégor who sent them to us with this fitting salutation: Salut les mecs and la nana (Hello Dudes and the girl).

SHOW RECAP – Washington, DC – May 9, 2012

We arrived in DC and promptly had to jump the van because we left the lights on while loitering in it outside a Mexican bar, attempting to avoid the meter maid.  We think the guy who jumped us was the owner of the bar, and we repaid his kindness later by purchasing a few beers and gaping at an astounding “Gooooooooool” in the soccer/futbol match on tv.  Host M. met us after work and we loaded gear in the rain up three and a half flights of stairs into a beautiful apartment above a bicycle shop…seriously, the kind of apartment you see in catalogues.  What, exactly, makes up the strips of those designer rugs?  Opener Chaim sang lovely songs off-mic and mixed some fabulous Manhattans.

Southern Tour!

Next week we’re heading down South (DC, Durham, Atlanta, Lynchburg) for four shows in four days.  The tire air pressure has been checked, the snacks are packed, the gear is loaded, and we’re ready to join you and warmer weather in the friendly south!  Of course, the new record Country/Static will be emanating from our instruments on stage as well as from our merch suitcase.  Three of these shows are house shows, and one is in a bookstore/coffeeshop, so they’ll all be very unique and intimate events.  Check out the Shows page and we’ll see you on the road!
